     Features

smi_hm1642_lathe_controlpanel_web Controls are close at hand: rotary rpm control with illuminated digital readout, start/stop and rocker switch for direction of rotation. Reverse rotation is great for the final light sanding, especially on certain species including pine. Holes in headstock casting are for indexing of spindle.

     smi_hm1642_lathe_swivelhead_web

The swivelling head and the heavy duty tool rest are ideal for faceplate and chuck turning. For work over 400mm diameter, make a toolrest and work “outboard” with the headstock at 1800. A chuck is not included - ask Jacks about options

     smi_hm1642_lathe_beltchange_web

(HM1642) The belt drive changes from high to low speed range in seconds from the front of the machine, keeping torque up when you need it most - for big pieces at low speeds. The inverter provides automatic braking. To index your work for fluting, carving or boring, flip up the blue cover and turn the spindle by hand until pin locates.

smi_hm1642_lathe_tailstock_web The cast iron tailstock slides freely but clamps rock solid to the machined bed casting. The steel clamp lever is 150mm long. Quill movement is 100mm - good for boring. Hollow spindle (10mm) enables deep boring for standard lamps using a ring steady & shell auger.
